This publication presents both simple and more advanced ideas and recipes for hands-on experiments with wood-based materials. Focusing on raw materials that are processed either chemically or mechanically from trees or other plants (cellulose fibres, micro- or nano-structured fibrils, cellulose derivatives, lignin, bark extractives, etc.), it offers a fascinating look at the innovative use of renewable cellulosic materials and how this can change our material world. Among other things, it addresses how we can make flexible and transparent wood-based materials, as well as the kinds of material we can derive from forests while still respecting and sustaining natural resources.
