“Co-Housing” is generally understood as integrative, autonomously organised, non-speculative housing. Commune-oriented ways of living have been enjoying increasing popularity in almost all European cities, thanks to the diversification of lifestyles and economic insecurity, but also due to ecological awareness and an interest in models that emphasise “living together.” Many of these creative projects make impressive and potentially significant contributions to the sustainable development of cities and neighbourhoods. Barrier-free renovation of old buildings in Berlin, communal living for the elderly in Stockholm and zero-emissions cooperatives in Vienna—this handbook presents a selection of the most significant Co-Housing projects in Europe today, and discusses all relevant themes. The publication is coordinated by id22 and was sponsored by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Berlin, which also assisted with content.
