This monograph contains the first works of the Portuguese architect Nuno Brandão Costa from the beginning of his individual work as an independent architect until 2009.
Most of the works presented correspond to domestic architecture realized in the north of Portugal, both new-family houses, pavilions, extensions and annexes or remodeling of existing houses.
The issue also presents administrative projects, won contests and other works in process.
The architecture of Nuno Brandão is certainly indebted to the Portuguese tradition, especially of the north, with a strong connection to the place and a great constructive rigor. In addition, the influences received from the Swiss architecture, especially by his training period with the architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre De Meuron, grant to these first works a high degree of abstraction and synthesis.
His architecture does not seek formal tricks but rather to work within the limits of the conventional, to condense the essential principles of architecture with great visual performance designed by the clarity and rotundity of the well solved constructive detail.
