central issue of our times. And from modern society’s desire to impose order on the world, the opposite has resulted: disorder. From the disruption of nature to growing signs of disorder, this sixth volume by the Prix Pictet illuminates this all-important theme. Founded by the esteemed Pictet Group in 2008, the Prix Pictet has quickly established itself as the leading award in photography and sustainability—unearthing powerful images that confront pressing social and environmental topics.

The Prix Pictet aims to harness the power of photography – all genres of photography – to draw global attention to issues of sustainability, especially those concerning the environment. In its sixth cycle since inception in 2008 the Prix Pictet turns a spotlight onto the theme of Disorder. This cycle has again attracted a remarkably diverse range of works by artists who confront us with the many facets of Disorder – from the failure of nation states and civil unrest to the devastation we have visited upon the climate and the natural world. For this cycle our network of 260 nominators worldwide recommended 700 photographers and, after a rich debate, the independent Jury shortlisted 12 artists. This book presents their portfolios, together with outstanding individual images by photographers from the wider nomination. As an ensemble, they depict a world which is, as Kofi Annan writes in his foreword, “defined by Disorder – disorder, at the very moment in human history when we almost dared imagine that no problem was beyond our capacity to solve.”

Through breathtaking, eye-opening photographs, Disorder not only connects readers to the heart of current sustainability debates; it also prompts them to contemplate their place in the environment’s future.

On Thursday, November 12 2015, Honorary President Kofi Annan announced Valérie Belin as winner of the Sixth Prix Pictet award at Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

The shortlist features works of 12 artists from 7 countries on 4 continents. In making their selection, the independent jury, chaired by Sir David King, praised the outstanding quality of the portfolios under review.
