MOK WEI WEI. Works by W Architects

The first Monograph on Mok Wei Wei, Singapore’s most inventive, thoughtful and respected Architect

Raised as a Chinese cosmopolitan, schooled in architecture at the height of Postmodernism and designing Neomodern buildings from an Asian metropolis – the evolution of Mok Wei Wei embodies the complexities and contradictions of a celebrated contemporary Asian architect in a globalized world.

Mok Wei Wei: Works by W Architects charts the exceptional career, over almost four decades, of the Singaporean architect and his boutique firm, whose multifaceted buildings have subtly redefined a modern nation into a global city-state. Going far beyond Singapore’s well-known associations with ‘tropical’ and ‘green’ architecture, Mok has steadfastly expanded this narrow discourse with a contextual response to the city’s ever-changing urban conditions and search for a distinct identity. The results are innovative architectural solutions that draw from a variety of spatial cultures – from the pragmatic transparency of The Paterson Edge condominium to the austere rock that is the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum – a body of work that has made Mok one of Asia’s leading architects.

As managing director of W Architects Pte Ltd, Mok Wei Wei’s numerous architectural projects have received critical acclaim around the world. In recognition of his contributions to Singapore’s architectural development, he received the 2007 President’s Design Award, the nation’s highest honour for design. In 2014, he was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM).
