Milan is the first Italian city to be part of the ON THE ROAD series. The year of publication of the guide, 2015, is also the year in which the Universal Exhibition took place in Milan.
In recent years the Lombard capital has become a metropolis involved in changes worthy of attention for architectural and urban planning experimentation. The complex dialectic between innovation and respect for the existing urban form is the distinctive character of Milan: the recovery of neighborhoods, the regeneration of abandoned industrial areas, technological experimentation, development in height, are the traits that mark Milan as a profoundly contemporary city. The guide was therefore created in response to the moment of great attention that is flowing into the metropolis. In leading the reader among the numerous contemporary architectures, it does nothing but highlight the peculiarity of its complex character. The transformations are still underway and for this reason it seems difficult to predict how a city of this size will redefine its balance: this is also part of Milan’s contemporaneity.
