For the centennial celebration of Finland’s independence, a comprehensive exhibition of Finnish design travels to several museums throughout Japan. The exhibition and its catalogue present the development of design in Finland by dividing its history into six phases, from the decorative arts of pre-independence through post-independence maturity and up to the present day. It focuses on key designers, such as Alvar Aalto, Kaj Franck, Tapio Wirkkala, and Eero Rislakki, and the companies that supported them. Perhaps best known for its elegant and functional design heritage, the country has nevertheless become a creative epicentre for new and emerging trends.
