C3 369: Culture Building Strategies / Ruins as Collective Monuments / Changing Office Interior

This issue’s main focus involves the generation of culture, but also its preservation. The driving force behind a large segment of contemporary architecture is the demand for bold, visually striking buildings. The cultural building is foremost among these, yet the selected projects, including Coop Himmelb(l)au’s Confluences Museum, the Utrecht Music Palace, and the Vegas Atlas Congress Center and Auditorium, highlight the wide variation within the typology. On the flipside is innovative heritage preservation, examples of which include DOMunder in Utrecht by JDdVarchitects and the Abbey of St-Maurice by Savioz Fabrizzi. Also in this issue, the changing landscape of office interiors is investigated.
