Learning spaces for children have undergone significant change lately, partly due to the impact of new technologies on educational practices. Educational building deals with typology, programme, adaptability and integration in social and cultural contexts. This edition focuses on the design of new schools and how this influences the physical and social realm of pupils, expressed in the text by Paula Melâneo as “learning catalysts”. Christ the King Kindergarten by Atelier Cube, Sandal Magna Primary School by Sarah Wigglesworth and Combatentes Educational Centre by Cannatà & Fernandes are examples. A second theme covers the augmentation of old architecture with new concepts.
