A+U 522: Supermodels (Photographed By Hisao Suzuki)

This very special issue introduces the photographs of architectural models taken by Japanese photographer Hisao Suzuki. Over the years, Suzuki has had access to many of the most renowned international architects, giving him the unique opportunity to document architecture in process, with the model stage capturing its essence. Five architects are also interviewed – Arata Isozaki, Christian Kerez, Ryue Nishizawa, Fabian Asunción, Bijoy Jain – and variously describe the study models as expressions of their desire to create space, as engines that drive thinking, or as vessels of uncertainty which can grow into architecture. With a text by Suzuki and essay by Kazuyo Sejima.
