This issue addresses urban revitalisation, encompassing the repurposing and continued use of individual buildings of industrial or cultural heritage, and the wider social, political and urban connotations such a process involves. As Jürg Sulzer claims in his essay, revitalisation must not only engage a dialogue with historic heritage in solitary cases, but should mean “the creation of new buildings and urban structures that are capable of being memorised”. Similarly, Gabriela Campagnol writes about post-industrial sites as key to urban renewal. Ten notable projects are featured, among them, works by BIG, Lacaton & Vassal, Cruz y Ortiz, Manuel Ocaña and Haworth Tompkins.
