Frank Zöllner dedicated his doctoral thesis to motifs present in the history of art and architecture of the medieval and Renaissance eras that originated in antiquity (1987). He also wrote a post-doctoral treatise on movement and expression in the art of Leonardo da Vinci, published in 2010. He has published numerous works dedicated to Renaissance art and theories, as well as those of the 20th century. Since 1996 he has been professor of medieval and modern art at the University of Leipzig. For TASCHEN he wrote XL format monographs on Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
Johannes Nathan studied art history at New York University and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, where he earned a Ph.D. in 1995 with a dissertation on the working methods of Leonardo da Vinci. He taught at New York University and at the universities of Bern, Leipzig and Cologne. He has written numerous publications dedicated to art and works as a freelance art dealer and art historian in Berlin.
